Keynote Speakers

Jesse Wente

Jesse Wente is a sought after Ojibwe broadcaster, curator, producer, activist and public speaker. He's been a columnist covering film and culture on CBC Radio's Metro Morning for 21 years and is also culture columnist for CBC Radio’s Unreserved. He has programmed for film festivals including Reel World, ImagineNative and TIFF and is currently Head of TIFF Cinematheque, overseeing TIFF’s historical film programme. Jesse has curated retrospectives on Stanley Kubrick, Tim Burton, Bernardo Bertolucci, Michael Mann and Kelly Reichardt. In 2012 he curated the world’s largest retrospective of Indigenous films, titled First Peoples Cinema: 1500 Nations, One Tradition and its accompanying gallery exhibition, Home on Native Land. He is currently producing his first film, a screen adaptation of Thomas King’s best-selling book, The Inconvenient Indian. An outspoken advocate for Indigenous rights and First Nations, Metis and Inuit art, he has spoken at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, the Canadian Arts Summit, CMPA’s Prime Time and numerous Universities and Colleges. Jesse currently serves on the board of directors for both the Toronto Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts. Jesse lives in Etobicoke with his wife and two children.


Njeri Damali Sojourner-Campbell

Njeri Damali Sojourner-Campbell is a creative and practical problem solver.

She assists employers to proactively reduce exposure to liability through policy design, robust workplace investigations, and employee training. Once a dispute arises, she assist clients as a strong advocate in labour, employment, human rights, education and workplace safety matters.

Prior to her legal career, Njeri was employed as a Human Rights and Diversity Advisor at Humber College. There, she supported workplace investigations, compliance initiatives and delivered human rights and AODA training. She combines this practical experience with her legal knowledge to provide holistic legal service.

Njeri also supports clients in the development of advanced inclusion and equity programming pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code, Employment Equity Act and Education Act.

Outside of work, Njeri dedicates a significant amount of time to the mentorship of aspiring lawyers, community service and the arts. She was a member of the 2016/2017 teaching team of the Lawyer as Negotiator course at Osgoode Hall Law School; she delivers an annual seminar in the Critical Race Theory Course of Osgoode Hall Law School; and she is part of the teaching team of the Human Rights Certificate Program offered by the Osgoode Law School Human Rights Certificate Program.


Cancellation Policy

If you are unable to attend, you are welcome to send a substitute. Substitutions can be made up until April 20th. Or, if you cancel in writing by April 6th, you will receive a full refund. 

Cancelling between April 6th - April 20th,we will refund all but $150 (administration fee), provided we receive a written cancellation notice from you prior to April 20th.

Registrants who do not cancel in writing before April 20th or do not attend are not eligible for a refund of their conference registration fee.
